Never Boring
Ms. D. reflects on her affection for Manhattan, where she grew up and began her career as a junior high French teacher in Harlem. Now living in Richmond, Virginia, with her daughter since she was 95 and with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anita shares memories of the walkable city life she misses. Above all, she discusses her source of strength: advocating for her 72-year-old daughter with intellectual disabilities, whom she personally educated prior to federal disability legislation. Despite the geographic distance from her daughter—who resides in a group home in Westchester, New York—Anita maintains daily contact and continues to follow politics closely.
